Two men face sentencing in May after pleading guilty to arson and burglary charges in Lawrence County.
Twenty-three year old Matthew Smith of Mt.Vernon entered the guilty plea this week to two counts each of second degree arson and second degree burglary. Twenty-one year-old Christopher Smith, also of Mt.Vernon, pleaded guilty to one count each of arson and burglary. Both are scheduled for sentencing May 14.
Also charged in the case is 21-year-old Halltown volunteer firefighter Cody Gossett of Ash Grove, who faces two counts of arson dating back to October of 2010. Gossett was scheduled for arraignment this week in Lawrence County.
The charges resulted from an investigation by Lawrence County, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the fire marshal’s office into fires that destroyed at least two structures.
